The city of Jacksonville has been voted one of the top ten running cities in the nation by Runner’s World magazine. Volunteers from the Marine Corps community with support from the corporate and civic community will again present this prestigious event. Following in the traditions set by the internationally respected Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., Jacksonville is the home to the annual Jacksonville Marine Corps ½ Marathon and Freedom 5K.

Hundreds of off-duty firefighters in dress uniform will gather near the foot of South Hogan Street, adjacent to The Jacksonville Landing, to participate in this commemorative event to remember and honor local firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The First Coast Head Race is an annual regatta held on the St. Johns and Arlington Rivers in Jacksonville. The course is a 4.8k course that runs under three bridges in a mostly residential area and has been said to be similar to the Head of the Charles course. The First Coast Head Race was conceived in 1989 by Mark Beckenbach and Pete Keegan. Mark was the coach at Jacksonville University and Pete was the president of the Jacksonville Rowing Club. At the time there were no Head Races sponsored in the State of Florida. The nearest race of this kind was the Head of Chattahoochee near Atlanta. It seemed appropriate to establish an event in Florida.

Ortega United Methodist Church is hosting the 2nd Annual Ryan's Run - a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday November 15th, 2014 in memory of Ryan Perry, to benefit the church and it's children's ministries! A one-mile fun run will take place at 8am. The 5k will start at 8:30am on Iroquois Ave behind the church offices, run though the beautiful tree-lined Ortega neighborhood streets, and then finish in the church's courtyard with a post-race celebration, including food, refreshments, and games for the entire family. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Ryan D. Perry Foundation at OUMC, and the church's goal of growing children's ministries in the community.
