Each year, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival presents the 'Round Midnight Jazz Jam, one of the most popular events of the festival and this year, the event will be expanded to two nights - Friday and Saturday. The audience and number of participants grow each year to witness the spontaneous creative spirit at the heart of jazz! The jam sessions feature musicians of different ages and levels of expertise, from the up-and-coming youth and working musicians in the community, to the seasoned headlining acts of the festival!
Supporting those sitting in to play and sing at the ‘Round Midnight Jam Session is the host group, The Kelly/Scott Quintet, an ensemble of acclaimed international artists/clinicians recognized by the students and headlining artists: vocalist Lisa Kelly, trumpeter JB Scott, pianist Per Danielsson, bassist Dennis Marks and drummers Clyde Connor (Friday) and Danny Gottlieb (Saturday). This will be hands-on experience for students and amateur musicians to learn and play with the pros and a great chance for festival performers to jam together!
Jacksonville boasts some of the top recognized jazz programs in the country, from LaVilla School of the Arts, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, Jacksonville University, Florida State College and the University of North Florida that produce accomplished students and award-winning jazz bands, under the tutelage of highly respected jazz artist faculty. Jacksonville also has a long established community of regionally to nationally successful performing jazz artists.
